Time Lapse Series: Kalachakra Mandala, Phila. 2009, by Ven. Losang Samten

Thank you to photographer/digital artist Thomas Bugaj for this time-lapse journal of the Kalachakra sand mandala that Losang created this past October and November, co-sponsored by University of the Arts, the Gershman Y and TBC.  The work spans thousands of images taken several minutes apart (excluding evenings : ) over the nearly four week period in which the mandala was created.

We are really, really grateful to Thomas, to Losang, and to all of the following for their generous work for all of us: our great thanks to Thomas Bugaj, to Losang, to Barbara Montgomery, to University of the Arts, UArts Media Arts Department and Media Arts Equipment Office, of course the amazing Gershman Y, and Karl Staven. Also a special thanks to Christopher Adams for his additional help, and, audio recording of the dismantling ceremony, November 22, 2009.  We also invite you to see the work as it appears on Thomas' own webpage.

And, if you haven't already visited them, please check out our many web pages devoted to the Kalachakra mandala here on the website (just look in the main menu to your left), including our webcast excerpts and descriptions, and also our extensive image galleries containing dozens of images taken over those four excellent weeks.

Thank you again to Ven. Losang, to Thomas, and to all who worked so very hard to bring this work to us.
