TBC Sunday Class for September 12th led by Bill Stauffer
A Sutta for Mac
Please join us as we reflect on the profound teaching of the Angulimala Sutta (MN 86). We will hear how a serial killer named Angulimala tried to kill the Buddha and ended up becoming a fully enlightened monk instead. This sutta was one of Mac Robb’s favorites and we will dedicate our merit to him.

A few months before his passing, Mac Robb and I were talking together about how much we enjoy and benefit from Pali suttas. When we spoke about our favorites, we each had the Angulimala sutta (MN 86) on the list, and we set an intention to get together to discuss it. However, the impermanence of life prevented our discussion. As Lama Tsongkhapa says:
“Precious human life, gained but once,
Has great potential but is easily lost …
I must remember that death is quick to strike,
For spirit quivers in flesh like a bubble in water”
Mac and I never had the chance to discuss Angulimala. So let us discuss this as a class, and we will dedicate our merit to Mac and to all beings.
If you’d like to read the sutta in advance, a copy can be obtained here:
