About the Event

Sangha Jātaka Tales Read Along & Meditation (Adult Session)

Wednesday, August 5th 7:00pm – 8:15pm Eastern Time Sr. Vernice Meytung, host

Reading aloud is fun! As adults, we sometimes forget how engaging it can be to read a story aloud. The Jātaka Tales mirror the essential teachings of the Buddha: Compassion, Love, and Wisdom. But because the core of the tales pre-date the Buddha, we often see traces of cultural biases existing at the time. In this read-along session, we will read together two tales: The Buttermilk Sage – Takka Jātaka and Husband, Brother, Son – Ucchanga Jātaka. We will share impressions about the roles the women characters portrayed in these two stories, reflecting on the biases present in one story and the honor and dignity present in the other. A short Tara mantra and meditation to honor the 21 Taras present in us all, will complete our read-along. So, come choose…
